Fiber for February
It’s already been a long year, hasn’t it? How is it only February?
It’s been fiber city here in the studio. I have crocheted myself a couple of cozy things since the holidays — a cardigan and a pullover sweater. No pics because I adapted someone’s pattern and I only like to share my own original stuff here!
And I have also been stabbing the ‘ol fabric plenty, i.e. embroidery. I am actually doing the Februllage challenge this year with a fiber twist, but i don’t think I’ll post it to instagram as I go — probably just an image dump at the end. (I was an early adopter in feeling weird about social media, an ambivalence that has only grown with the more apparent depravity of its owners.) More on this soon.
Meanwhile I wanted to share my very late 2024/early 2025 embroideries.
First look here at “Cascade” as it would seem to you if you were a teeny tiny ant. Coming in at just 7 inches square, I am clearly exploring the concept of restraint and minimalism. Ha ha.
I’ve got a whole lot happening on this, ribbon, beads, some Kutch work, stumpwork (hate that term) applique, and even a tiny bit of macrame.
I just mounted it on foam board today, and I’ll need slightly better light outside to take a proper pic, but for now…
Here are three other embroideries completed before Cascade, all nicely situated in frames I painted. They are all about 6 inches wide by 8 inches tall. The piece in the blue frame is part of my “Collaborations with Anonymous” project.
